We turn your novel or idea into a comic book.

What we offer:

The traditional method is targeted at independent authors who have the graphic novel rights to their books or traditionally published authors looking to develop a new project. We will offer a contract with an advance and royalties after earn out. We do not retain novel, or any rights other than graphic novel rights. The art created is owned by us and we will create comic book themed merchandise, which also when sold, as opposed to given away, contributes to the earn out and ultimately any royalties. Please check out our listed comic book projects for examples. If interested, please contact andrew at apoapsu.com.

Authors seeking to adapt novels that are owned by publishers can either relinquish comic book rights or possibly operate with alternate terms, such as a cost plus fixed fee option. Generally we don’t like to charge authors because we’re not a hybrid publisher.

How does it work?

Upon contract completion a member of our staff will adapt the first two or three chapters of your novel into a comic book artist ready script of approximately 24 pages. The author will have an opportunity to review this script and is credited as the writer.

After the script is approved, we will retain the services of artists to generate the interior art and covers. Since we use crowdfunding platforms such as Kickstarter, there will generally be two or three variant covers per single issue. We will also commission a logo. The author will have the opportunity to review and approve the art at the artist’s first milestone (usually the layout stage or the completed pencils stage). After the art is complete, it will be sent for letters.

The crowdfunding campaign is set up at this time and a launch date is set. We do some marketing for no extra cost and will ask the artists to market using their art (although they have no obligation to). We also ask the author to promote at this time. At the conclusion of a successful campaign, and receipt of funds, we will proceed to print on demand with our preferred printers, obtain the books, and fulfill the campaign. Following that, we will pursue sales opportunities at comic conventions.

This process is repeated, for as long as the author would like to continue, every few chapters until a full book is adapted. We find this snowball method of creating individual saddle stitched (floppy) comics a more palatable way of adapting due to cost and schedule. After a sufficient amount of issues are produced, we will collect them into a volume to produce a perfect bound trade paperback (TPB). Generally ROI is higher during this portion of the service since the art is already paid for. After completing a full novel’s worth of art, we can then collect all the TPBs into a full graphic novel, called an Omnibus.

At the conclusion, you should have 12 to 16 individual comic book issues, a few trade paperbacks, and one omnibus along with any merchandise such as bookmarks, art prints, stickers, etc.
